Do you remember the night before your birthday as a child? So much excitement you could hardly sleep a wink? That’s how we feel about Living Donation Week! The air is changing, school is back in session and the excitement of Living Donation Week is here!

#LDW2022 is a public awareness event launched by the Centre for Living Organ Donation in 2020 with support from the transplant community across Canada - and we want YOU to join us in the celebration!

From September 11-17, join us and our partners in:

  • raising awareness and improving access to living kidney and living liver donation,
  • celebrating living donors, transplant recipients and Team Transplant, and
  • inspiring those currently waiting for a transplant and those who care for them to explore living organ donation.

We have many exciting events happening throughout the week:

  • A Celebration Event on Monday, September 12th at 12pm EST. Livestreamed on the Centre for Living Organ Donation's YouTube Channel, this year's celebration will include stories and interviews from living donors, transplant recipients and Team Transplant; entertainment from Cree Rapper and Dialysis Warrior HellnBack, and more. We'll also highlight living donor medal selfies and LDW22 Gratitude Wall posts. Join us!
  • Finding a Living Donor Hands Virtual Workshop on Wednesday, September 14th at 12pm EST co-led by living donor transplant recipients with hands-on knowledge and experience and living donor and communications expert, Heather Badenoch. The webinar will provide practical tips to help you share your story, create email and social media campaigns and raise awareness about your journey.
  • Living Transplant Podcast Living Donation Week Episode. Host Candice Coghlan is joined by Centre for Living Organ Donation co-founders, Joanne Kearney and Brendan Cahill and Director of the Ajmera Transplant Centre at UHN, Dr. Atul Humar. Together, they discuss pre-emptive kidney transplant and paired kidney exchange, why living donation is so important, how policy change can make a difference, transplant innovations and what the future may hold.
  • National Living Donation Awareness Campaign Launch: Great Actions Leave a Mark is campaign designed to increase public awareness of the power of living kidney and liver donation. It showcases the scars (mark) and stories of living organ donors and living donor liver and kidney transplant recipients across Canada. In Case You Missed It

In Case You Missed It

Host Candice Coghlan is joined by guest host, Mary Beaucage. As a follow up to Season 2 episode Indigenous Ways of Knowing, Mary discusses barriers to transplant and her extensive advocacy work. Candice and Mary are joined by Dr. Istvan Mucsi, a clinical investigator and transplant nephrologist at the Ajmera Transplant Centre and Division of Nephrology at UHN. They talk about Dr. Mucsi's research on inequities in transplant, how research findings can support patients and families to remove some of these barriers and how to build trusting relationships between patients and clinicians. And what was that all about the camo pants? Mary wears camo pants when she travels to bring her good luck as she had a string of unlucky travel delays and since wearing the camo pants, it has resolved some of her travel delays.

In this episode, living kidney transplant recipient and new mom, Candice Coghlan, shares her story of crash starting dialysis at a young age, receiving a kidney transplant...
Meet Maria and Loralie. Maria was diagnosed with #primarybiliarycholangitis and needed a liver transplant. She found out that the fastest and best route for health was a living donor liver transplant...
