Leave Well

April showers bring May flowers. Time to bloom!

We hope you were able to watch, read and listen to some of the amazing stories of organ recipients, donors, donor families, caregivers and the transplant community as a whole during April Be A Donor Month. We will use the inspiration to fuel us into the coming weeks.

There are many things to celebrate and reflect on this month; Lupus Awareness Month, International Nurses Day (May 12), Mothers’ Day (May 14), and of course, World Laughter Day (May 7).

We are particularly thrilled to announce the launch of Season 4 of the Living Transplant podcast on May 11 featuring experts like renowned cardiologist, Dr. Heather Ross; surgeon, Dr. Anand Ghanekar; former transplant social worker, Margot Mitchell; ophthalmologist, Dr. Clara Chan and many more.

You will also hear brave stories from Charles Cook, a health advocate and heart and kidney transplant recipient; Darryl Wallis, a multi-organ transplant recipient and father to another; Ivica Balaban, an opera singer and kidney recipient; Amber Needham, author and limbal stem cell recipient and Kathy O’Toole, her living donor. Listen on Apple, Spotify, Amazon or wherever you get your podcasts. This is a season you will not want to miss!

If you have a story you’d like to share or a topic you’d like us to hear about, reach out to us @givelifeuhn or via email livingorgandonation@uhn.ca.

Happy May!

P.S. Be A Donor Month is over but efforts to encourage more Canadians to register their consent are year-round. The image above is from Leave Well, an exciting new nation-wide campaign featuring people who have registered their decision to be organ donors. The key message: choose to leave well, so others can live well.
