Did you know there are currently 1,289 people waiting for an organ transplant in Ontario? BeADonor Month occurs every April across Ontario to raise awareness and  encourage you to have the conversation about organ and tissue donation. It can also be a rewarding way to give back to your community - share your story and help spread awareness, create a donor registration campaign, or support one already underway.

During April, we grieve those who lost who their lives and share gratitude for those who registered their consent to become donors, and the families who made the difficult decision to donate a loved one's organs and tissues so others could live on.

The legacy of organ donation is evident during Green Shirt Day, April 7th, a day to remember Logan Boulet and the six lives he saved, and to thank the Boulet family for honouring their son's wishes and continuing to raise awareness, share their story and inspire others.

We also celebrate NOTDAW, National Organ and Tissue Donation Awareness Week  from April 23-29th and fittingly, National Volunteer Week from April 16-22. Transplant takes a team. To all those who work tirelessly to raise awareness and support people on the transplant journey: we thank you!

In this episode, host Jennen Johnson talks with Amina Jawaad, living kidney donor to her husband during COVID. Amina discusses the lead up to donation and transplant, their hospital stay, her son's reaction and life on one kidney.
