Think parent involvement and family engagement are the same thing? Think again! During this morning session, we will dive deep into the differences between the two, identify the tenets of true family engagement and learn why a combination of both is crucial to the health of your students and school. You will walk away with a toolbox full of strategies for engaging a variety of stakeholders, as well as brainstorm ways to incorporate these strategies into your school environment.

 

Trauma impacts every facet of our students’ lives, and their school life is no exception. During this afternoon session, we will take a close look at what happens in the brain and body when a person experiences trauma or chronic stress, as well as how that in turn impacts their ability to learn and behave appropriately in a classroom or school setting. We will make sense of the seemingly non-sensical behaviors our students exhibit and learn strategies for helping students regulate themselves in order to find academic, emotional and social success at school.
