Important Information Regarding Minitab Licensing
Minitab has moved to a new licensing model. The licensing is now a "named user" license, where IT will need to assign licenses to faculty and students enrolled in courses where Minitab is required. To request Minitab for yourself or your course, please go to the IT Service Request system and complete the Minitab Request form. You will be prompted to provide the 5-digit course reference number (CRN) for your course so that we may obtain a current list of enrolled students.

Coming Soon! Launch of New Website Directory/Profiles
Over the past few months, Institutional Marketing, IT, and the ITC have collaborated on a simple re-design of faculty/staff directory and profiles, to give editing access back to the CCSU community as quickly as possible. This project will be launched in 2 design phases. Phase 1 design will launch the week of August 22.

  • Key data fields will be migrated automatically if the information already exists on the server. These fields include: Photo, First Name, Middle Name/Initial, Last Name, Title, Primary Department, Phone, Email, Office Building, Office Room. Note: If any of this info does not currently exist it will not show up in the profile.
  • Other data fields will need to be manually moved by the owner of the profile. You will have access to your current profile information until December 31, 2022. These fields include: Biography, Secondary Departments, Personal Professional Website Links, Professional LinkedIn/YouTube links, Office Hours, CV pdf., Your Education/Degrees obtained, Areas of Expertise, Publications, Research, & Presentations, Awards & Grants, Memberships & Affiliations, and Courses Taught.

Training and the opportunity to receive updated professional profile photos will be provided. Stay tuned for training and photographer schedules.

PaperCut: New Pay-for-Print System for Students
The new PaperCut pay-for-print system is now live. This system replaces the Pharos swipe stations.  With the PaperCut system, students will use the reader attached to each printer to release their job. PaperCut enabled printers are located in the Library, Student Center, and TechCentral. Students will need to have money on their Blue Chip card to print, balances may be checked at https://get.cbord.com/ccsu.

Student pay-for-print pricing:

  • One-sided printing: $0.05/page for black & white and $0.25/page for color.
  • Two-sided printing: $0.04/side for black & white and $0.20/side for color.

Need Software In Your Classroom?
Please request software needed for your classes in computerized classrooms and labs at least three weeks prior to the start of the Fall semester. We highly recommend that you visit your classroom to verify all software needed is installed.

Mobile-Ready Computer Setups

By now, full-time faculty and staff should have a CCSU-issued laptop as their primary computer and desktops returned to IT. If you have not yet replaced your desktop with a laptop, please submit an IT Funded Computer Request via our IT Service Request system. As part of your setup, we can provide a docking station with an external monitor, keyboard, and mouse (shown here) so that while you are in your office the laptop functions more like a desktop. This set up allows you to move your laptop seamlessly on campus for meetings and events and bring it off campus when needed. We ask that you try to make the switch over the summer at your convenience. If not, the next time you have an issue with your computer, we will have to initiate this process which might be at a lesser convenient time for you. Desktop computers are available for part-time staff using the same request form.

Unit Directors and Academic Chairs, you may also email techsupport@ccsu.edu for us to review your departmental needs.

Phishing Attacks Are Getting Trickier
Phishing, the attempt to acquire sensitive information such as usernames, passwords, and credit card/bank account details by masquerading as a trustworthy source in an email or other form of electronic communication, is becoming more common and even trickier to detect. We have recently seen an uptick in phishing attempts offering job opportunities, student grants, or bitcoin. If you do not know the sender or think an email is phishing, it is best to just delete it; do not reply or click on any links. If you are unsure, call the sender to confirm the legitimacy of the message. Read the SANS Ouch Newsletter for important information and tips on how to protect yourself from phishing.

Scheduled System Maintenance

Thursday Night Reboot
Every Thursday starting at 11:59pm, important updates are sent to your CCSU-owned computer (Windows and Mac). Please save all data and sign out (log off) of your computer when ending your work day every Thursday as these updates often require a reboot. Whether the computer is on or off campus, it needs to be left powered on (do not shut down), connected to a power source and to a network.

Sunday System Updates
Every Sunday from 12am-12pm all systems (e-mail, Central Pipeline, wireless, etc.), will be intermittently unavailable while important maintenance and updates are performed.
