Keeping you informed as we create the new Buckinghamshire Council
20 December 2019
Issue Number 6

As we head towards the new year, we would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your support and feedback over the past few months as we have been working towards the delivery of the new council. There has been a great deal of progress made and we are excited by the opportunities the new council brings. We look forward to working with you in 2020 and beyond.

We wish you all a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

In today's update you will find information on the following:
  • Community boards decision
  • Planning services update
  • Town and parish charter - coming soon

Keeping it local - 16 community boards agreed for the new Buckinghamshire Council

Thank you to everyone who shared their views in our community Boards consultation. Your feedback has been used to shape the final details, which were agreed by the Shadow Executive on Tuesday 3 December.

In particular, changes to the initial proposals include:
  • An increase from 14 to 16 community boards
  • Different geographies to reflect detailed feedback on the best boundaries
  • Additional funding allocated – now £3.9 million overall
During January to March 2020, we will be working to prepare for the launch of community boards, including the recruitment of a new, permanent team to support their delivery.

Community boards will launch following elections to Buckinghamshire Council in May 2020.

Local Area Forums – what happens next?
As you may have heard, the last meetings of the Local Area Forums (LAFs) will take place during December 2019. However, any projects which have already been started by your LAF will continue into the new year and the Buckinghamshire County Council LAF team will still be available to help you with any queries.

Decisions on 2020/21 funding for supporting local projects are planned to be taken in Autumn 2020. Any funding applications already received by the Local Area Forums will be forwarded on to the relevant community board to consider in Autumn 2020.

Further details on the new application process for community board funding will be developed and widely publicised as part of the launch of community boards in Spring 2020.

Planning services

On 5 December, we held a session with members of town and parish councils from across the county to talk about on the emerging proposals for the Planning service in the new Buckinghamshire Council. Thank you to everyone who attended, we hope you found it useful.

For those of you who were unable to attend you can see the slides here and read the questions asked on the night (and the answers) here.

Please let us know at unitarycomms@buckscc.gov.uk if you have any comments or queries.

Town and Parish Council Charter – coming soon

We are continuing to develop a charter, with the input from BMKALC, that will set out how the new council and local towns and parishes will work together to improve outcomes for local communities. A draft charter will be shared in the new year.
