The warm weather has been a pleasant surprise this January and has made for an enjoyable change on campus. As we embrace these mild days, we’ve got some exciting stories for you. Opera Production

For the first time in over a decade, Evangel’s music department is bringing opera back to the stage with its production of The Italian Girl in Algiers by Gioachino Rossini. This lively and comedic opera, performed in English, promises an entertaining experience for audiences while showcasing the talent and dedication of Evangel’s vocal performers. A chapter of Evangel University history is coming to a close as the board of trustees moves forward with plans to demolish Kendrick Library, the oldest building on campus. Closed last spring due to maintenance issues, the library has served as a cornerstone of campus life for decades. Its demolition this summer will pave the way for a new facility that promises to bring exciting updates to the heart of campus. Over the past 21 days, Evangel students have gathered together to spend intentional time in prayer. Led by senior Cole Ronning, this second annual 21 Days of Prayer event has been filled with intercession as students, alumni and local community members submitted prayer requests.  Discover how 21 Days of Prayer has made an impact on the Evangel community in the rest of the story below. 

Alyssa Nichols

The summer is usually a time for rest and fun, relaxation and vacation. That was not the case for senior Alyssa Nichols, who spent her summer working through a sudden illness and a miraculous recovery. 

Nichols is a communications studies major with minors in biblical studies and leadership. Shortly after the end of last spring semester, she became ill with what was thought to be a cold. “I had a bit of a health scare,” she said. “I had some sort of cold, and it turned into pneumonia, and from pneumonia, it turned into sepsis, and I almost lost my life.” Read Nichols' story through the link below.

Valor Grounds is located in the lobby of the Riggs Administration Building.

Valor Grounds is a quiet study spot on campus located in the Riggs lobby. It offers fresh, hot, coffee and tea all day long. Valor Grounds is full of great seating options, with a quiet and relaxing atmosphere. It is the perfect space to catch up with friends, finish that paper or grab a cup to-go. Valor Grounds is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., five days a week.

Evangel Temple, located at 2020 East Battlefield Road in Springfield, is an easy drive from Evangel University, only 15 minutes away.  ET is rooted in the traditions and principles of Assemblies of God, ensuring a spiritual experience. ET is dedicated to its mission statement, “We create environments where people discover a life-changing relationship with Jesus,” reflecting their commitment to community and faith. They create this environment by greeting everyone and making them feel welcome when they enter the door and when they leave.
 
Sundays have three services led by the lead pastor, John Davidson, at 8 a.m., 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. Their 8 a.m. service is the traditional service that incorporates hymnal worship with a choir and orchestra.
 
College students are encouraged to join their connect groups to get plugged in and poured into. This provides community, support and opportunities that one may find within the connect groups. These connect groups can be held at ET while some meet away from the ET campus. Anyone who chooses to visit Evangel Temple will be guaranteed to be greeted with a smile and leave with a smile on their face.

Springfield’s snowfall records showcase decades of weather extremes

The Midwest is often known for its unpredictable weather, and Springfield proves to be no different. This graph illustrates the record snowfall amounts from one day every month throughout history. The data highlights Springfield's extreme weather and unbelievable records sourced from The National Weather Service, including receiving 6.1 inches of snow on May 2, 1929.

Autumn Nold

Valor sophomore Autumn Nold is making her mark on the indoor track season, breaking records and qualifying for nationals. In December, Nold set a school record in the 400-meter dash at the Husker Holiday Classic, only to break it again in January at Washburn with a time of 57.04 seconds. At the NAIA/JUCO Challenge, she continued her dominance, setting both a school and meet record in the 600-meter dash with a time of 1:34.89. As Nold continues to raise the bar, the Valor track and field team is seeing an impressive season unfold. Read more about the team's success below.
