The nation's paper supply is running thin, impacting envelopes, books, paper bags and beyond, NBC News correspondent Kerry Sanders reported on TODAY Tuesday. 

Paper Excellence announce that its Prince Albert facility has been granted a softwood fibre allocation of 1,033,564 cubic meters per year by the provincial government.

The addition of the pulp dryer will allow Phoenix Paper to more efficiently operate the back end of the mill, as well as add a secondary product of baled pulp.

Saica Group, a leading manufacturer of recycled paper for corrugated board, will be investing $800 million in the U.S. market, growing through strategic acquisitions or new plant construction during the next five years.

Some say that the use of 100% recycled content in paper-based packaging is critical because it “saves trees.” But the demand for wood fiber from sustainably managed forests actually encourages responsible forestry practices that promote long-term forest growth..

“Combining these two complementary companies will further expand Pactiv Evergreen’s position in the Foodservice segment, broaden our sustainable packaging product offerings and customer base, and increase our manufacturing capacity and distribution capabilities,” said Mike King, Pactiv Evergreen CEO.
