Nb. 2 - June 21st, 2022 - "Platforms in summer"

Summer has brought more light to our days ... and platforms!
If you knew there were 45 platforms at UCLouvain, did you have any idea of the range of services they could offer?
To help you find your way around, the UCLouvain platforms have completely revised their web pages (the English version is still planned for September).
Also, they have detailed and consolidated their expertise, equipment and infrastructure in order to meet your needs for consultancy, training, analysis and/or rental of premises and scientific equipment.
Whether you are a researcher, a student or coming from the socio-economic world, there is most certainly a platform that can help you with your projects and contribute to their development.
Do not hesitate to contact them!

The Platforms Community

Do not hesitate to talk about this initiative and to relay it around so that an ever-growing public is informed of what is happening within the UCLouvain platforms!

The BIOINFO platform becomes intersectoral and expands its staff!
To meet the growing needs of the Science and Technology Sector, the BIOINFO platform -created in 2019 within the de Duve Institute - becomes an intersectoral platform. Manon Martin has also joined the team as Research Logistician ; she will provide support to the UCLouvain researchers in the field of bioinformatics.

A new Youtube channel dedicated to high performance computing
In collaboration with the Consortium des Équipements de Calcul Intensif, the CISM platform is inaugurating its YouTube channel gathering videos of training courses dedicated to the use of supercomputers.
This is an opportunity to learn how to use Linux, parallel programming, GPU computing and many other topics!

Book your calendar! The SMCS platform has opened its training programme for the next academic year
Registration for data analysis courses on various software and statistical techniques for the academic year 2022-2023 is now open.
Register today if you want to be sure to have a place!

The MOCA platform's approval for wastewater analysis has been renewed for 5 years!
To meet the requirements of the environmental permit and the resulting tax,
a type A approval (physico-chemical analyses) from Wallonia and the Société Publique de Gestion de l'Eau (SPGE) is required for wastewater analyses.

Statistical Methodolody and Computing Service
Data analysis training courses and consultancy services

Mineral & Organic Chemical Analysi
Chemical analysis of mineral and organic constituents of complex matrices: soil, water, plants, food, waste, biotechnology

The atomic force microscope (AFM): an ally to reach the frontiers of nanotechnology, biophysics and biology
David Alsteens and his team have just made a very promising discovery: they identifyied the key that allows the COVID virus to attack cells.
The AFMs pooled in the IMABIOL and MICA platforms have made it possible to examine the molecular mechanisms involved.

Biological imaging platform
High resolution imaging of biological samples: confocal microscopy, epifluorescence microscopy and atomic force microscopy

MIcroscopic ChAracterization of functional and nanostructured materials
Microscopic characterisation in materials science, chemistry, solid state physics and (bio)nanotechnology

Want to test the health benefits of plant combinations?
The CICN is the place to be!
The CICN platform is carrying several studies and is looking for volunteers to test the effectiveness of plant combinations on:
- LDL cholesterol or "bad cholesterol" (bergamot / spirulina)
- mood disorders (rhodiola / saffron)

When the greenhouses are putting on a show!
Last March, the UCLouvain greenhouses (SEFY platform) were the site of an unusual activity: the Sunday Pistols production studio deposited its material there for the shooting of a short science-fiction film that will be screened at the Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival from August 29 to September 10, 2022!

Center of Investigation in Clinical Nutrition
Clinical nutrition studies to assess the benefit of food supplements or food on human health

Plant Cultivation Facilities
Greenhouses and growth chambers for monitoring and management of crops under semi-controlled conditions (aeration, humidification, heating and lighting).
