Family Weekend will allow parents to experience the life of an Evangel student. Photo by Enoch Struble.
 
For the first time, Evangel is hosting a family weekend this Friday and Saturday, Feb. 7-8. Spread throughout this two-day event, families of students will get to experience what a day in the life of an Evangel student looks like by joining them in classes, attending chapel and experiencing Valor basketball games in the AGFinancial Arena. The Made for More committee, a group of about a dozen women, is meeting weekly to organize community events for Evangel women. Originally known as Fashion Fever, the group restructured last year to expand its focus beyond fashion to spiritual growth and connection. This semester, Made for More will host two events, including their signature fashion-focused gathering.

Evangel University’s Spiritual Emphasis week featured guest worship leader Bethany Wohrle and speaker Reggie Dabbs for a three-day event focused on worship and spiritual growth. Wohrle, an artist from Bethel Music, led worship alongside Evangel’s chapel teams while Dabbs shared messages and his saxophone skills with students.  Read more about the event and its impact through the link below.

Hope Church is a non-denominational church located at 2121 South Blackman Road, a short 10-minute drive away. The community at Hope is dedicated to teaching God’s Word and giving Him worship. Hope Church has been led by Pastors Josh and Kristi Thompson since 2019 and was founded by Pastor Gary Hay in 1993. Hope Church offers two services on Sunday mornings at 8:30 and 10:45. Services follow a pattern of worship, preaching and prayer, allowing the Lord to work in powerful ways throughout the service.
 
Hope Young Adults (HYA), pastored by Diego and Kasidi Vianna, allows anyone ages 18-29 to “pursue God’s presence, grow in relationship with Jesus, and develop meaningful connections with each other.” Hope Church hosts All HYA Night on the first Tuesday of every month at 6 p.m. This is a time when young adults can take a break from their busy schedules, share a meal, worship, and connect with each other and God’s presence. HYA Homes occur during the remaining three weeks of the month and are hosted by families across the Springfield area, allowing young adults time to connect while growing closer to God.

Ali Kamies

Junior guard Ali Kamies has been named the KCAC Women’s Basketball Offensive Player of the Week after leading Evangel to back-to-back conference wins last week. Her standout performances helped secure a victory on the road against Ottawa and a dominant home win over Bethel. This marks Kamies’ second time earning the honor this season as she continues to be a force for the Valor.
