Nb. 9 - March 21st, 2024 - The platforms newsletter is now 2 years old!

Two years ! And a newsletter once again made possible by the dynamism of the platforms and the support of the Province du Brabant wallon.

New research and innovation projects? The CICN and P2C are at the heart of projects linked to senior nutrition and carbon fibre recycling respectively.

Collaborations with companies? Watch the testimonials from Isomatex - a SME manufacturer and supplier of fiber reinforcement solutions for advanced composites - and GSK Belgium - a world-renowned vaccine manufacturer - about their respective collaborations with P2C and SMCS.

Training courses? Find out about those dedicated to text mining in Python organised this summer by the SMCS and CENTAL platforms.

Cutting-edge equipment? The LACaMI platform presents its tomographs and the innovations they open up.

Hidden treasures? The Musée L platform is announcing that it will soon be possible to view the details of a work of art or an object online, whether or not it is on display.

Interested in knowing more about UCLouvain's platforms? On 16 May, they will be represented alongside other University stakeholders with links to companies at the event organised by the LLN Science Park and inBW: Innovation et durabilité: agir ensemble pour le développement des entreprises du Parc scientifique.

Research and innovation

... new projects

Projects related to nutrition? Think CICN!

• for scientifically validated clinical studies in human subjects
• for sensory analysis tests
• for consumer tests
• for market research
• for food behavior assessments

Towards a new range of food products to tackle undernutrition and improve the quality of life of the elderly
As part of the DELICEN'S project, the CICN is looking for volunteers aged over 65 who are interested in testing a range of protein-enriched foods designed by local food manufacturers over a 6-week period.

Recycling carbon fibres from the aerospace industry in an environmentally-friendly and cost-effective way
REPREC is the name of the project involving CENTEXBEL, the P2C platform and a consortium of companies to recycle/recover carbon fibres from:
• offcuts and expired rolls, at the manufacturing stage
• polymerised waste generated during production or at the end of the product life cycle

Polymer Processing & Characterization
• Processing of polymers and composites: extrusion, 3D printing, RTM/SQRTM resin transfer moulding
• Characterization of polymers and composites: thermal analysis, rheological analysis, mechanical and thermomechanical analysis

... testimonials from companies

Tigran Vartanian, Founder and CEO of Isomatex, on his collaboration with the P2C platform

"It is essential for today's SME to open up a lot more to technology platforms to tackle applications we would not be able to respond to or envisage otherwise."

"We employ a lot of experts, bioengineers, veterinarians, laboratory technicians and they don't always have a comprehensive training in statistics to analyse their data in the best way. So, thanks to the SMCS, we were able to bring them up to date on data analysis technologies, statistical software and design of experiments."

Gaël de Lannoy, Head of Global Drug Substance Innovation Center at GSK, on his collaboration with the SMCS platform

These videos were produced with the support of the Province du Brabant wallon.

State-of-the-art equipment? For which application?
Platform equipment is clearly at the cutting edge of technology. But for which applications? Which platform is equipped? This new section aims to provide some answers.

The 3D tomograph - RX solution - EasyTom S and XL models
• To measure porosity, composition and defects in materials
• To link the geometry of materials to their mechanical properties
>>> Application: design lighter materials with the same mechanical performance as heavier materials

Analysis, characterization, and processing laboratory
• Processing of materials (metallic materials and polymers)

• Chemical analysis
• Microstructural characterisation

Culture

The Musée L's collections will soon be available online
On 23 May, Musée L will be launching a new tool for highlighting its collections online.
The collections portal will make it possible to quickly view the details of a work of art or object, whether or not it is on display.
In addition to broadening the scope and accessibility of its collections, the museum intends to use this tool to encourage research and teaching initiatives.
