March is Kidney Health Month and Liver Health Month.

One in 10 Canadians lives with kidney disease; more than 52,000 are being treated for kidney failure. A leading cause of death, chronic liver disease now affects 1 in 4 Canadians. Those people are our parents, children, siblings, friends, neighbours and coworkers.

This month, we celebrate the resilience, strength and courage of people living with kidney and liver disease and those who step up to support them - donors, caregivers and family & friends.

Join us as we spread awareness, share stories and provide resources. Check out greatactions.ca to hear how ordinary people are capable of doing extraordinary things, and how living donation is leaving a mark on those who give, and those who receive the gift of life.

Visit our givelifeuhn.eventbrite.ca page or our YouTube channel to learn more about kidney disease and liver disease and treatment options. And join the living donation conversation @givelifeuhn.

Happy Kidney & Liver Month!

Studies show that expressive writing when done in a safe and supportive environment can be healing. Writing and sharing your story with others also helps to overcome the sense of isolation sometimes accompanies a serious or life-threatening illness. Join us for a free 5-week expressive writing workshop for transplant recipients, donors and caregivers led by Sharon Bray, EdD, author, educator and UHN patient partner. If you don’t tell your story, who will?

The African Caribbean Black Regenerative Medicine Project is hosting a series of workshops to facilitate discussion of issues pertinent to Regenerative Medicine and ACB communities. For more info or to be notified of upcoming sessions, contact Jacqui Getfield, PhD, Jacqueline.Getfield@uhn.ca
