We're just over one month away from Living Donation Week 2021 #LDW2021 and the anticipation is building. We have some fantastic events and activities planned from September 12-18, 2021. Whether you're a transplant recipient or candidate, past or future living donor, advocate or caregiver, or a member of Team Transplant, there's something for everyone!

As you scroll through our detailed agenda below, know that there are lots of ways to get involved in LDW2021 beyond attending events. The theme this year is "share your story" and we invite everyone, whatever their relationship to transplant, to share their #TxStory is any way they feel comfortable. Just don't forget to tag us and use the hashtags #LDW2021 and #TxStory so we can share on our feeds!

We also encourage organizations to partner with us to spread awareness of living organ donation and improve access to a timely transplant for liver and kidney patients on the deceased organ waitlist. Check out www.livingdonationweek.ca for program and partner updates.

As many of you know, last year we lit up the CN Tower in green and white in honour of Living Donation Week. This year, we're inviting landmarks across Canada to Light Up for Living Donation! If your community has a landmark you'd like to see lit up for the occasion, reach out to us at livingorgandonation@uhn.ca and we'll do our best to involve them in the celebration. A list of participating landmarks will be posted on our website

Looking forward to celebrating with you in September!

This interactive peer-led workshop will provide living donor transplant candidates and donor champions with confidence and practical knowledge on how to overcome common hurdles and get started sharing their story - where, how and IF you share yours, is up to you!

This event takes place on September 15, 12:00 p.m. EST.

What's New

My Strange Addiction: Transplant

On the latest episode of Living Transplant, post-liver transplant coordinator, Shauna Watson and post-lung transplant coordinator, Pauline Harney join Courtney and Brittany to discuss their roads into the world of transplant, the day-to-day life of a coordinator, and how they stay organized with literally hundreds of patients. Shauna and Pauline talk about the joy of seeing patients thrive and the wins that keep them addicted to the world of transplant.

Available Now: Pathways to Liver Transplantation

Watch Dr. David Peretz, Director of Liver Transplant, Health Sciences Centre Winnipeg, and Heather Lannon, Outreach Coordinator, Centre for Living Organ Donation, UHN, discuss the two pathways to transplantation and considerations for out-of-province patients. Living donor, Rod Zeaton shares his story including the experience of travelling from La Salle, MB to Toronto to donate to his cousin.

Farewell Heather Lannon!

It is with very mixed emotions that we bid Centre Outreach Coordinator, Heather Lannon, farewell. Since starting with the Centre in 2019, Heather has made an incredible impact on the living donor transplant community with her dedication, compassion and signature sense of humour. Heather is completing her Doctorate of Social Sciences at Royal Roads University which focuses on the connection between home and the heart transplant journey. In her new role, she will be working with heart patients. Congratulations Heather!

Coming Up This Month

On August 19, registered dietitians Anna Richardson and Linda Cerullo discussion nutrition pre- and post-kidney transplant.
