Dr. Deepali Kumar, Infectious Disease Physician, Ajmera Transplant Centre

When transplant is part of your life, you know that some of the best stories and discoveries come from the most challenging times.

Recently, Dr. Deepali Kumar, Infectious Disease Physician, Ajmera Transplant Centre remarked that finding a cure for COVID-19 is the most concentrated effort she's seen in the last 20 years, where the entire research community is working towards a common goal. As we move into the colder, dark months of this challenging year, Dr. Kumar's reflection is a perfect reminder to persevere. After all, we're all in this together.

Improving Access to Living Donor Kidney Transplant (LDKT) in the Chinese Canadian Community
“Reduced utilization of LDKT is true for both adults and children from the East Asian Canadian population," says Dr. Istvan Mucsi. "The very limited published research on this topic suggested that traditional values – cultural and potentially religious values – may be  possible barriers."

Improving Patient Centered Care for Solid Organ Transplants
Transplant improves the symptoms that patients experience as a result of organ failure, as well as physical and emotional functioning and quality of life. Still, many transplant recipients often suffer from ongoing physical and emotional symptoms, stress, or side effects of medications. These concerns are under-reported, under-recognized, and under-managed.

In Case You Missed It

Dr. Markus Selzner presents on ex vivo organ perfusion - innovative technology that allows for organs to be kept alive outside of the body. Ex vivo allows for the rejuvenation of organs that would otherwise be unsuitable for transplant. Find out how ex vivo works and what it could mean for the future of transplantation.
