Sylvia Lambrechts, a Los Angeles native, was born to South American parents who immigrated to the U.S. in pursuit of their American dream. Raised with a strong emphasis on education, Sylvia and her sister both attended USC for their undergraduate degrees before pursuing master's degrees in the health field. Growing up in a bilingual household proved advantageous both professionally and personally, especially when exploring the world.
From a young age, Sylvia harbored a curiosity about medicine and science, which blossomed into a passion throughout her academic journey. It was during her college years that she delved deeper into public health, health promotion, and disease prevention, eventually leading her to pursue her master's degrees in Boston. Returning to Los Angeles, Sylvia embarked on establishing herself in the health field, ultimately finding her true calling and niche in the field of Quality Improvement.
Her career began by focusing on underserved populations, particularly within the Latinx community, being both bilingual and bicultural. Over time, her work evolved to encompass population health for the broader UCLA patient population. Currently, Sylvia is enthusiastic about UC-wide initiatives aimed at addressing health disparities among African-Americans/Non-Hispanic Blacks with Hypertension and Latinx/Hispanic patients with Diabetes, actively supporting these efforts.
Sylvia finds great fulfillment in collaborating with top professionals in the field of quality improvement, striving to develop high-quality, evidence-based workflows. As part of the UCLA DoM Quality Program team, Sylvia works alongside physicians, nurses, project managers, and administrators dedicated to improving the health of UCLA patients. Her role involves working across various service lines, from collaborating with physicians on decision-support projects to assisting staff in implementing best practices.
Being part of such an exceptional team that fosters collaboration and prioritizes team wellness has been immensely rewarding for Sylvia. She takes pride in contributing to impactful initiatives that positively impact patient care while nurturing a supportive and inclusive work environment.
