We congratulate our alumna, Aselia Umetalieva, Director of International Student’s Office on recognition of the efforts that she and a devoted team of AUCA staff took during the evacuation of AUCA alumni from Afghanistan in summer of 2021. Aselia has received The Laszlo Z. Bito Award for Humanitarian Service which was awarded at Bard College.

Aigerim Sarieva

In the age of the COVID-19 pandemic many of us experienced hardships and went through many challenges. In these hard times, many kind-hearted people did not stay away and gave a hand for people to survive. Our AUCA alumni were involved in many volunteering activities and made great efforts to mitigate people’s difficulties during the pandemic. Among these heroes are our alumni  Edil Ajibaev,  Meerim Taabaldieva, Aigerim Sarieva, and many others  who decided to remain anonymous but illustrated excellent leadership.

Each year AUCA Alumni Office is delighted to present the Alumni Hero Awards to AUCA alumnus/na in recognition of demonstrating AUCA community spirit, outstanding leadership, engagement and service to the community. For 2021, Alumni Heroes Award is granted to the group of alumni who stood up during COVID crisis in Kyrgyzstan and beyond for demonstrating AUCA community spirit and service to the community in times of need.

Aigerim Sarieva  received the group award for volunteering in the red zone during the first wave of the pandemic and helped with what she could do at that moment. Despite not having a medical background and expertise, Aigerim greatly contributed to hospitals by helping doctors and recording patients.

She proved that limitations are just in our minds and if we really want something, we will definitely make it.

Aigerim exhibited the spirit of the AUCA community by making this incredible contribution and  we would like to congratulate her on being nominated and selected by the Alumni Council.

Almaz Suiunbekov

Starting this academic year we renew the tradition and present “Alumni Hero” Award at the commencement ceremony for alumni demonstrating AUCA community spirit, outstanding leadership, engagement, and service to the community.

💫Our 2022 recipient Almazbek Suiunbekov BA 2017 is a vivid example of a true AUCA alum who himself received a scholarship, was an NGA student, AUCA student, and now supports students by donating towards their scholarships. Almaz studied in school and helped his family by working at Dordoi market, while dreaming of receiving education at AUCA. This year he donated a considerable amount to the Alumni Fundraising Drive and supported current outstanding AUCA students. We encourage all our alumni and this graduating class to keep supporting your alma mater in any way you can.

Cyber Security workshop

On June 6 - June 10 Development Office and ITF Enhancing Human Security together with the leading cybersecurity specialists from Viris conducted workshops on cybersecurity and cyber hygiene for thirty-two students and practitioners from AUCA.

The workshops covered essential cybersecurity threats that lie in digital space. Participants of the workshop learned how to protect their personal data. They discovered that threats are real and were surprised that some of their passwords have been leaked during big data breaches in the past.

Four mentees, AUCA alumni and students participated in the previous workshops volunteered and started building up their skills and knowledge by assisting trainers from Viris in delivering the workshops.

Building up expertise of the local experts in cybersecurity is essential part of the project and thanks to the Slovenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs @mfa_slovenia and U.S. Embassy Bishkek, Kyrgyz Republic @usembassybishkek we can conduct useful and timely workshops at one of the leading universities in the region @myauca

Fatima Khalil Human Rights Scholarship

We remind that the fundraising drive for the scholarship fund in memory of our alumna Fatima Khalil is ongoing!

Fatima double majored in Human rights and Anthropology and graduated in 2019. She was a very active student and a fierce advocate for human and women's rights. Fatima used to say : "We need respect, we need the freedom that belongs to us!" Upon graduation, she returned to Afghanistan, where she worked with the Afghan Independent Human Rights Commission. Tragically, she was murdered by a car bomb in Kabul on June 27, 2020, while on her way to work.

We ask that you join us by contributing to the Fatima Khalil Human Rights Scholarship Fund. We are delighted to remind that the Open Society Foundation will match dollar for dollar up to $100,000 raised by AUCA for the Fatima Khalil Scholarship. The campaign is aimed to collect funds for the scholarship which will support extraordinary motivated students majoring in human rights and committed furthering women’s rights who is also very actively engaged in his/her community to advance these causes. We believe that it is people like Fatima, who with their brilliant minds, can bring peaceful change into the lives of those who need it the most.

Please help us by spreading the word, contributing, finding donors, and remembering Fatima's short but wonderful life!
