Caregivers juggle caring for loved ones, work, family and personal commitments daily. The mental and physical load they carry is heavy. This month, we not only recognize the heart, dedication and hard work of caregivers, but we also share immense gratitude for everything they do. If you are a caregiver to someone on the kidney or liver transplant list, join us the last Wednesday of the month for our Caregiver Information Session for tangible tips and supports.

November is also Diabetes Awareness Month. Diabetes is the leading cause of kidney failure, accounting for 1 in 5 kidney transplants, according to CIHI. The ACB Organ Health YouTube Channel will be releasing a series of short videos to commemorate World Diabetes Day, November 14. Subscribe to the channel and support our community partners by sharing this important information with patients and peers.

This month we are also launching #WellnessWednesdays featuring useful tips and resources to help our community of recipients, donors and caregivers stay healthy.

Join us @GiveLifeUHN on social media and YouTube for delicious and easy to follow recipes with Chef Amy Symington. For a taste of what's to come, check out Episode 1, Foods to Boost Your Mood.

We look forward to the month ahead and wish you all a Happy Movember!

In Case You Missed It

Did you know that a preemptive, living donor kidney transplant is considered the gold standard of treatment for end stage kidney disease?

Edward Drake was a college athlete living his dream when a routine physical just before his 21st birthday uncovered kidney failure. He started dialysis the next day. In the last episode of Season II of the Green Table Talk, Edward talks with host, Jennen Johnson about his journey, why he started the YNOTT (Youth Needing Organ & Tissue Transplant) Foundation, and what inspires him to this day.

When Vanessa Tait’s dad needed a healthy kidney, she didn’t hesitate.
She saw a way to improve his life and get him back on the land he was missing. “I had to give a piece of myself to get my dad home,” she said during the launch of a campaign to promote living organ donation.
A decade after two brothers went through kidney donation together in Winnipeg, both are working on a campaign to help convince people to give someone else the greatest gift: an organ.
