We are very excited as things rev up for Living Donation Week, September 11-17, with incredible events and activities planned each day of the week. Transplant recipients, living donors, caregivers, future donors, future recipients and Team Transplant will join together to share stories, educate and inspire, and importantly, to celebrate!

There are many ways to get involved - from being part of our kickoff Celebration Event, to snapping photos of landmarks lit up green across Canada, to voting and participating in the Pitch Competition, to learning about kidney and liver disease and the importance of living donation at partner events and our very own interactive workshop on Finding a Living Donor, to sending us your medal selfies and - what the whole week is all about - sharing your stories of hope and gratitude.

Do you have a connection to living donation? We would love to hear your #TxStory. Please send us your photos and/or video clips, and tell us about your journey and what inspires you to share it with the others.

Gratitude is a big part of our lives. We encourage you to participate with us in sharing your gratitude to your donor, friends and family, and frontline staff who supported you through your transplant journey. Post on our Gratitude Wall, bit.ly/LDW22TX and check out last year's touching messages for inspiration.

We have close to 30 landmarks across Canada lighting up green in honour of Living Donation Week. If there is a landmark you'd like to add to the list, or if you are able to visit a participating one and snap a photo, please email livingorgandonation@uhn.ca. If you post your story and photos on social media, don't forget to tag @GiveLifeUHN and use #SharetheLight and #LDW2022 so others can find it.

What makes Living Donation Week special are the many people and partners involved. We encourage you to share LDW information with your family and friends, community and local media. And if you are planning an event, send us the details so we can add it to the #LDW2022 calendar, share with our networks and spread the word about how living organ donation changes lives.

Are you ready for #LDW2022?

We look forward to seeing you in September!

Living Donation Week is a Canada-wide awareness event held annually, starting the 1st Sunday after Labour Day. One of the highlights is the virtual Celebration Event on September 12 at 12 noon Eastern. In addition to stories, interviews, performances and messages from recipients, partners and Team Transplant, the event will feature living donors and their medal selfies.

Those who donated a liver or kidney at UHN from January 1 to December 31, 2021, will be mailed a Trillium Gift of Life medal in the coming weeks. If you have moved since your organ donation, or donated prior to 2021, please confirm your contact information and mailing address so your medal gets to you.

Attention trainees, students, fellows! Do you have an important research topic or brilliant idea to:

  • increase access to living kidney or living liver transplant?
  • raise awareness of the lifesaving impact of living organ donation or
  • dramatically improve the outcomes or experience of living donors, recipients and/or caregivers?

If "YES" consider pitching your project to the #LDW2022 Pitch Competition. Submissions consist of a 2-4 minute video and a 500 word backgrounder explaining your study or project and why it merits support. Shortlisted entries, including the video with the most YouTube Likes, will be invited to participate in the live Pitch Competition on September 16. Deadline is August 17, 2022.

Questions? Check out the #LDW2022 Pitch Competition Info Session slides or email livingorgandonation@uhn.ca.

This year we are partnering with the Canadian Transplant Association and the organ donation community to organize local events during Living Donation Week and raise public awareness of the lifegiving power of a living kidney and living liver donation. Nearly 30 landmarks across Canada will light up green for #LDW2022. If you'd like to suggest a landmark, organize a local meet up or share your story or cool photos, get in touch.
