Speaker: Kirby Williams – Legal Aid of Nebraska
In this webinar, we were joined by Kirby Williams, the Outreach Coordinator for Legal Aid of Nebraska’s Native American Program. A member of the Cherokee nation and a Nebraskan by way of Oklahoma, Kirby shared in-depth information relating to her work in raising awareness of the missing and murdered Indigenous peoples (MMIP) crisis. Violence on reservations is ten times the national average and the topic is especially germane in Nebraska, which has the seventh-highest number of missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls (MMIWG) in the country.
Kirby provided contact information for a number of location-specific domestic violence programs across the state, as well as for the Strong Hearts Native Helpline (1-800-762-8483).
