The National Theatre’s production of Follies will return to its Olivier stage next year, according to director Dominic Cooke.

Speaking at the Critics’ Circle Awards where he was named best director for his work on the production, Cooke said it would return early next year, with the hope of a further transfer afterwards. He also confirmed that a cast recording of the show would be released.

“We don’t know who’s going to be cast, everything is up for grabs,” he said. “It’ll be at the National, and the hope is that it’ll go somewhere afterwards. But at that moment we’re focusing on the Oliver.”

The production also picked up an award at the Critics’ Circle for its designer, Vicki Mortimer. Cooke was shortlisted for best director for the production at this year’s Evening Standard Theatre Awards, with Janie Dee shortlisted for best musical performance. The cast also featured Imelda Staunton, Tracie Bennett and Philp Quast.
