Volunteers Make The Patriotic Wheel Go Round
This week we recap the past weekend's events, with volunteers 'retiring the wreaths' at Arlington National Cemetery and hundreds of other locations nationwide.
We have several stories about how volunteers show their patriotic support, each in their own unique way. Of course, that is how the wreath-laying tradition got started over twenty five years ago, when a Wreath-Maker from Maine gave back in the way he knew how.
And did you notice the section called "This Week We Remembered" down below? Read the names slowly.
We say their names and we remember because...
"In truth a person dies twice, once when he stops breathing, and a second time when somebody mentions his or her name for the last time. Join us in December when over one million volunteers nationwide, will say the names of a million fallen out loud, to make sure they will never be forgotten."
"I went up to that hill and looked at all of those graves of my colleagues who have gone before me."
Wrapping The Cleanup Weekend At ANC
Before more than 10,000 volunteers helped pick up 265,000 wreaths at #ArlingtonNationalCemetery this past weekend, cemetery staff were hard at work making sure the day went safely.

Each day we #SayTheirNames and #We Remember:
On January 16th, we remembered, Army Enlisted Nurse Nora Emilie Anderson who served during WWI and made the ultimate sacrifice on this day in 1919.
On January 17th, we posted about, Navy Lieutenant Charles W. Kelly who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving in Vietnam on this day in 1967.
On January 18th, we honored, Army Sergeant Gordon Douglas Yntema who served during Vietnam and gave his life on this day in 1968.
On January 19th, we recognized, Army Sergeant Jon M. Schoolcraft III who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving during Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2008.
On January 20th, we gave tribute and a moment of silence for, Marine Staff Sergeant Walter F. Cohee III who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving during Operation Enduring Freedom 16 years ago today.
On January 21st, we remembered, Army Air Forces Second Lieutenant Donald E Underwood who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving during WWII in 1944.
And on January 22nd, we honored, Army Master Sergeant Carl F Foster who served during the Korean war and gave his life for his country on this day in 1951.
