Please Join Us for Fourth Annual Agricultural and Environmental Law Conference

The Fourth Annual Agricultural and Environmental Law Conference will be held on Nov. 8, 2018.

October 17, 2018

The Agriculture Law Education Initiative (ALEI) will be hosting its fourth annual Agricultural and Environmental Law Conference in Annapolis, Maryland at The Crowne Plaza on Nov. 8, 2018. Influential policy-makers, farmers and intellectuals will come together to discuss current legal issues that are impacting the Maryland farm community. With the 2018 renewal of the Farm Bill, agriculture is at the forefront of pressing social and political debates. This year’s conference will provide individuals with the opportunity to learn how to manage and overcome important and common legal issues that many farmers face.

Speakers will discuss a variety of topics, including the growth of Maryland’s aquaculture industry, the Chesapeake Bay Watershed Implementation Plan (WIP), the legal landscape of Chlorpyrifos and pesticide regulation, and a discussion on the legalization of industrial hemp in the state of Maryland. In addition, the keynote speaker of the event will be from State Senator Thomas McLain “Mac” Middleton, the only full-time farmer on the Senate.

The event is from 8 a.m. - 3 p.m., with breakfast, lunch and refreshments included in the registration fee. The cost to register is $50, though there is no cost to register for students who have a valid ID. Some new and beginning farmers are eligible to receive a 50% discount on the cost of registration - email Shannon Dill (sdill@umd.edu) to confirm eligibility.

Online registration will close at 11:59pm EST on Thursday, November 1, 2018.
