Kerry Bio

The Association for the Study of Higher Education (ASHE) has elected COE Associate Dean for Graduate Studies and Faculty Affairs KerryAnn O’Meara to serve as president during 2019-20. ASHE is the premier research association for scholars who study higher education, and Dr. O’Meara will deliver a major address on her research at the end of her term.

“The election means a lot to me,” Dr. O’Meara says. “It is incredibly humbling to be in the company of a long line of scholars and leaders in our field in taking on this role during 2019-2020.”

Dr. O’Meara has held membership in ASHE for the last 20 years, and her advisor and dissertation chair Robert Birnbaum was ASHE’s president from 1985-86. As president of ASHE, Dr. O’Meara will work with the board and executive director in providing organizational leadership and developing a theme and focus for the annual conference.

“I look forward to working with colleagues to bring greater visibility to the role of ASHE members as local change agents on their own campuses, as well as actors using their scholarship to effect change in systems,” Dr. O’Meara says.

Dr. O’Meara will assume her new role as president-elect starting in November at ASHE’s annual meeting, which will be held in Tampa, FL.
